Low, (111 Cfs), clear, (gin) and cold, (55 F) water has made more than a few anglers consider a 1, 2 or 3wt rod for Summer work along the Gunpowder. Long leaders are the rule here and a 10-12 footer ending in 6x or lighter is a good starting point. Ants, beetles and hoppers continue to produce along shade covered banks. Sizes vary, and fishing two dries is a good way to trick wary fish. Nymphing in the morning has been very productive from Bunkerhill access upstream. Try a small prince nymph or pheasant tail in a #16-18. Streamer fishing is always tough this time of year, thwe water is a bit cold unless we have enough rain for a “spillover event”.

Note: Spillover happens only when the reservoir is full to the brim and if we receive enough rainfall so that the excess water flows over the face of the dam. This warms the river up enough-at times in the mid 60’s to make the fish more apt to take streamers.
