Beginners Fly Fishing School

Please join us for a fly fishing school. On Saturday September the 8th a Backwater Angler Guide will be teaching a fly fishing school that is ideal for beginners. If you’re planning on fly fishing in Maryland, or anywhere else for that matter, this course is a great introduction to the sport. The school covers knots, casting, gear and fly selection. Class is held from 10:00 – 1:00pm. Cost is $125 per person and includes the use of gear. Gunpowder River Update

The Gunpowder is 2.91 feet, flowing at 362 CFs and is 56.84 degrees F. The river is still too high to fish safely. Median flow for this time of year is close to 100 Cfs and flows that afford safe wading are well below 225 Cfs. Please Respect the River and give the Gunpowder a break. Last week numerous news outlets covered recent swift water rescues in both the upper and lower Gunpowder River. We certainly don’t need to add to that number by testing the waters.

Gunpowder River Update

The Gunpowder River is still flowing at a dangerous level. At 8 AM at Falls Road, the river was 6.8 FT, flowing at 1,650 Cfs and the water temperature was 72.14. At 10 AM at Falls Rd the river was 6.32 FT, flowing 1,460 and the water temperature is 74.84 F At 8 AM at Glencoe Road is 8.18 FT and flowing at 2,310 Cfs. At 9:45 AM at Glencoe Road the river was 9.64 feet and 2,790 Cfs. That said, NO ONE should be entertaining any thoughts of fishing, floating or tubing the Gunpowder River until this spillover event subsides.
