65 F in January…

The shop has been buzzin’ this morning with folks from DE, VA, DC, MD and PA all converging on the Gunpowder river to fish early black stoneflies…Two guides just dropped in to report that stoneflies in a wide range of sizes, ( from a #12-18) have been coming off since morning. We’re also seeing some gray midges in a #22-24 and snowflies and tiny Olives aboves Falls Rd. Water flow is stilll higher than the USGS Gauge is reading. The river level is at 1.70 about 65 CFs so expect to see lots of riffles and flats. Water temp is up between 45 and 48F-mostly owing to spillover. Most of the stoneflies can be found from Masemore through Big Falls Rd. Excellent guide trip reports from elated clients both Saturday and Sunday point to a very good start to dry fly madness.
