The river is low at 34 CFs, clear and full of fish. Backwater Angler guide Jason du Pont led a client to several nice fish today with x-caddis and stimulators on long, thin leaders. The water temperature is 52 F and the fish have been looking up.Dries or unweighted streamers are a good bet. Small Bwo’s should work fine as long as it’s a bit cloudy-or early. Caddis in the #14-16 range are best bets above Masemore rd through Falls. If you’d like to fish higher flows, check out the lower river. The 5 fish a day stretch received 750 new rainbows on October 13th. The YOY, (young of the Year count is the real story… Last year Charlie Gougeon and staff estimated just over 909 YOY during the Fall survey. This year they measured…drum roll please…2, 459 YOY. Charlies related that they found 454 in approximately 100 ft. Great numbers folks and good cause for fishing small, traditional streamers like gray ghosts in a size #8-12.
Sure you’ll catch some leaves out there but we’ve had two recent reports of small fish hooked on dries that have been gobbled up by their larger brethren..
Note: Don’t use weight with small streamers, you’ll catch all of the leaves!
