Thanks to Wes Bulllion for the stream report and photos.
Theaux and Rocky,
The following photos were taken during my recent trip to Colorado. My wife, Renee and I traveled around the state in about 7 days stopping in Denver, Aspen, Vail, Rocky Mountain National Forest, Colorado Springs and several smaller towns in between. This was our first visit to the state in search of future Bed and Breakfast location with the buisness plan to offer guide services and cater to fly fisherman. We hope to leave the DC area in about 3 years for this awsome state. I fished the Frying Pan River, Roaring Fork River, Colorado River, South Platte River and Yampa River. I caught the more and larger fish in the Yampa River in downtown Steamboat Springs than the other rivers. The local guides recommend trico spinners and grasshoppers but being a nymph and streamer fisherman at heart, I elected to start with standard patterns of Pheasant Tail nymph followed by a brassie. This resulted in a couple of nice 2 to 3 pound rainbows but my larger fish were caught stripping a 3 inch black leech with ribbon flash, size number six hook. I caught several rainbows over 4 pounds in the 20 to 23 inch range and lost a really nice brown that looked to be 24 to 26 inches on the jump and felt between 5 to 7 pounds. He broke off 3X tippet like it was 6X. I also lost a nice cutthroat of about 3 pounds all in public water. It was a most excellent sampling of the fly fishing potential Colorado streams have to offer the fly fishing angler. I also really enjoyed breaking in my Lifetime Member Trout Unlimited membership rod; RL Winston 5 wt with 1.5 Lamson Guru reel. Theaux thanks for setting me up with backing and line.Tight lines
