Savage River Summer Fly Fishing Report

I just returned from a few days on the Savage River before the holiday weekend. Fishing midweek always limits the number of anglers on the water, and the campsite on the river was nearly empty. I crossed paths with Max and Alex who were heading back to Baltimore, and met up with fellow Savage enthusiast, Neil. The air temps dropped into the sixties when we arrived on Wednesday morning. 4th of July Weekend Hours

Celebrate Independence Day by fly fishing along the Gunpowder River. The river is low, 32Cfs, clear and 52-55 F throughout the catch and release area. Low Water Terrestrial Fishing on the Gunpowder River

Anglers fishing the Gunpowder river have experienced low and clear water throughout the catch and release section. At Falls road the river is flowing at 35cfs and water temperatures are in the 50 to 55 degree range. At Glencoe road the river is flowing at 75cfs and water temperatures are around 60 degrees. Stealth and a careful approach is absolutely necessary when fishing in these low flow conditions. Ten to twelve foot leaders tapered to 6x and 7x have been the ticket.
