Gunpowder River Fishing Report

The Gunpowder is low, clear and flowing at 29.7 Cfs at 47.3 F. Fishing was a little easier midweek when warmer air temps approaching 82 degrees F and the resulting warming of the low flows triggered hatches of tiny BWO’s and Little Black Stoneflies in the catch and release section. Didymo is still present on the larger, shoe box sized rocks in the upper catch and release section above Masemore making nymphing challenging at best so suspending zebras or WD40’s under black caddis might be a better approach. Covering water mid-stream at the head of riffles with a soft hackle is a good bet. If you don’t want to squint, try tying on a midge cluster pattern or parachute BWO or Adams. I’m happy to report that everyone is still talking about the 10lb Rainbow someone’s lucky grand-daughter caught during youth fishing day on her last cast!
