As we proceed into autumn, fishing has been very good on the river. Flows around 100 cubic feet per second with temperatures around 56 degrees Fahrenheit prove for very ideal conditions for both streamer and nymph fishing.
As far as streamer fishing goes, small to medium sized streamers have been very effective in the faster water, especially at the tailouts and heads of pools. Patterns like a wooly bugger, complex twist bugger, and small articulated streamers proved to be effective when swung and stripped through the faster water. It may be advantageous to use a sinking tip line or a sinking poly leader to help get flies down into the deeper pools where a weighted fly may not be enough to get in the strike zone.
Nymphing has been effective throughout the river as well. The most effective patterns have been small midge patterns like wd-40s and zebra midges, paired with heavier flies. Jig flies are often effective as they are heavy enough to get those small flies down, however in many pools some additional split shot is helpful. Both indicator and tight-line nymphing have been effective, however the deeper pools you might find using an indicator will give your drift more time to get your flies deep into the pools.
