Fly Tying For Beginners: Gunpowder River Favorites

Please join us for a Beginners Fly Tying Class on Saturday July 21 from 11:00 AM till 2:00PM. It’s an introductory fly tying class that focuses on Gunpowder river patterns. Our very own Gunpowder river guides will be teaching this fun-filled beginners class. Cost of the class is $45 per person, and includes the use of tools and materials. Backwater Angler Fights the Spread of Whirling Disease in Maryland

I’ve been working since May Maryland DNR Fisheries, interested Trout Unlimited and Federation of Flyfishers folks to spread awareness about Whirling Disease throughout the state.The discussion has ranged from whirling disease and it’s impact on state hatcheries, natural resources, and waterways, as well as anglers perceptions of the disease. Summer Gunpowder River Flyfishing Reports from Monkton, Maryland

Summer fly fishing near Baltimore, Maryland might just pass you by if you wait for water levels to increase on the Gunpowder river, near Monkton , Maryland. Despite low water levels this weekend, (38 Cfs and 54 F at Falls Rd), two new Gunpowder river anglers caught their first wild browns on a fly Saturday. On Sunday, two Backwater Angler regulars had a banner day on the stream.
