Backwater Angler is Open 7 days a Week in 2008!

In our 7th year, Backwater Angler’s New Years resolution is to be open seven days a week. We hope yours is to fish more in 2008! Fly Fish for Wild Browns, Kamloops Rainbows and Native Brook Trout that inhabit 18 miles of public water just 35 minutes North of Baltimore, Maryland, and only 75 to 90 minutes from DC. Shop hours are 10:00AM till 6:00PM every weekday and 10:00 Am till 4PM Saturday and Sunday. We are also open on Monday Holidays from 10:00 till 4 PM. Bamboo Fly Fishing Rods built in Baltimore Maryland IV, Hon

I’m way overdue for an update on the rod so here goes… Since my last post I’ve run the individual strips (18 in all) through the router-powered beveler, which cuts the initial 60 degree angle into each strip. Then I started working on the tip sections. The tip strips were further straightened and I scraped off the layer of enamel that covers the outside of the bamboo. Taking off the enamel is one of my favorite parts of rod building because it’s the first time I get to see the true color of the bamboo as it will look on the finished rod. It’s like …

Trout fishermen now cringe at the thought of killing and mounting a trophy trout merely to hang on the wall. Today’s technology now allows photographs of trout complete with measurements to be turned into life-like reproductions. Pennsylvanian George McGinty of McGinty’s Taxidermy has recently brought a selection of large browns, rainbows, brook trout and char reproductions for display and sale in the shop.
