I heard from several anglers over the weekend that they had great luck with dark bodied caddis emergers, (like x-caddis in a #16). The water temp is 52 F and is clear. Most of the fish reported this past weekend were in the 10-14″ range, with a quite few Rainbows in the mix.The river will be down around 34 CFs until around 2 PM as DNR spends another morning counting fish.If you’re planning on fishing today I’d suggest you give the lower river a try with streamers.

Dry fly purists should still rely on #18 -20 Olives and #16 dark bodied Caddis through the weekend. If you’ve looked at the gauge lately it’s been up and down today but will be stable through the weekend with another drop planned for Monday and Tuesday as the Fisheries managers finish up their survey.

A few dreary days have proven to be good for the fish and the fisherman. The river is low and clear and the dry fly fishing has been exceptional in the upper catch and release section. A ten to twelve foot leader ending in 6-7x. If streamers are more to your liking, try the stretch between Bunkerhill and Big falls road with a lite bright zonker or a big olive Wooly Bugger and watch out for the log jams.
