The Gunpowder is flowing at a 161 cfs and the water temp is 51 degrees up near the dam. The lower river below where little falls comes in is still very muddy after all this rain. In the upper river the fishing is very good. We are starting to see Sulfurs out on the river with the occasional caddis hatch as well. Fish have been eager to come up to dies in the mid to late afternoon. Fishing nymphs or streamers in the mornings have been producing the best results. Fishing small caddis or mayfly nymphs with a larger stonefly or San Juan Worm behind it is what has been bringing the most fish to net. If you are looking to throw streamers don’t be afraid to go big. Black or olive have been the hot colors this week. There are plenty of eager fish out on the river. If you are looking to learn to fish these hatches or just want to refine your skills out on the local river, give the shop a call to book a trip with one of our guides. We have our May flyfishing schools on the website. Make sure to sign up while there is still availability. Tight lines!
