Gunpowder River is Clear, Low and Cold

The river is flowing at 37 Cfs, is low , clear and cold at 58 F. Loch Raven is spilliing over, so we’ll see low water in the river for awhile–at least until it rains. Sporadic caddis and sulphurs are still about. Try #14 caddis and emergers paired with a #16-18 Sulphur in shaded riffles and hold on. With 95 F forecasted for downtown Baltimore today, fly fishing the sulphur spinner fallĀ for wild brown trout is worth a shot. Rusty and para-spinners in a #14-16 on 7-8X in flats and edges should account for a few fish looking up.Mornings have been productive with small caddis …

Thanks to Scott for the following Stream Report: Theaux, Hey guys I saw your most recent stream report today but not before I hit the river last night where I stepped in to some unexpectedly cold water. I parked at the upper lot and went toward the dam. It was flowing pretty good but was easily manageable. I did not get to the river until 7:30. Sulphers started buzzing around at about 8pm, but the fish still were not looking up. At 8:30 they finally took my size 16 rusty spinner.
