CFA1506F / 12 Row Micro-Slit Foam Fly Box Review

The 1506F is a shop favorite. This box has brought more smiles and organization to folks in the past few years than just about any other small item I can think of. Imagine being able to put the contents of five or six boxes chock-full-of-flies into one place. The box comes with four leaves, so typically we’ll sort nymphs on one side, dries on the second, streamers on the third and terrestrials on the fourth. I have two of these boxes because I have one set up just for Sulphurs in various life stages-think..Dries, Nymphs, Emergers/Cripples and Spinners. Theaux Le Gardeur

Swimming Gunpowder Brown Trout

I saw a SHA plow truck today on Coldbottom Rd. The plow was conspicuously absent as is the Winter weather we’re used to seeing about now. Rest assured the water is cold, (at 42F) clear, and low. Approaching fish without spooking them has been very tough. Long leaders help but staying out of the water, even the shallows and fishing as much as you can stand it from the banks is probably your best bet. This stream report and picture is care of Jeff Lewatowski of Lewscfa.com Hey Theaux, Here are a few pics from a great Sunday outing on the Gunpowder at Masemore and Falls …

Flyfishing the Gunpowder? Try Pheasant tails and wear gloves

With the water temps in the low 40’s, 42 F today at Masemore, and plenty of low water, (28 Cfs) throughout the catch and release section, glove up and cover more water with small nymphs in slots and runs along log jams and undercuts. Pheasant tails, prince nymphs and small scuds should work fine. Anything doiwnstream of Little Falls will have more flow but not necessarily more fish. Stay warm out there and stop in to warm up.If you happen to be fishing on a Wednesday in December, the shop will be open from 10Am till 6 PM every Wednesday and we look forward to …

More Tying Class Kudos

Hey, thanks guys for holding the Caddis Tying class. The Snowshoe Caddis was a new one for me, and it’s all but unsinkable, (I don’t think I’ll be buying any more elk hair). Jason did a great job showing us the easy way to tie variations of standard patterns. And he also clued us in on how best to fish them. That’s something you don’t find in your typical pattern book. So, when’s the Mayfly class? Thanks again, Jim Check out our tying class offerings on the instruction page of the site
