The water is high and clear. The gauge at Falls this morning was 2.8-around 330 Cfs. The river will be a little chalky below the feeder creeks at Masemore and just below Bunkerhill. So fish just above these if you like clear water. In short–Get up here and bring a few San Juan worms if you’ll be fishing through the showers this afternoon.

The sun is shining and Yes, the water is still off color, but we’re finding fish that are taking Sulphurs from the surface. Most of these are #14-16. If the fish are rising, but you can’t seem to connect, try a sparkle dun. A sparkle dun is a great emerger pattern that is easy to see and works like the devil. One should find some better looking water, Olives sized #18-22 and #18-20 Caddis above Falls Rd. The fish are looking up. Water temps are 55 F, flow is 180 Cfs and the weather is not going to get any better. Small olives are still a good bet in the morning. Tired of fishing tricos? Come up and fish hoppers from your western box and use leaders in the 9 to 12 ft range in 6x. We had lots of smiling faces as the electroshocking survey concluded this past week. With the electroshocking completed, the river is no longer at a placid 30 CFS…Expect water levels in the 170 to 180 Cfs range for the next few days. The water will still be clear, around 53 F and for many of the guides that work out of the shop, it’s big fish time. Bigger flows typically mean that fish are on the feed and can be tricked with large streamers in the #6-8 range and heavy and bulky nymph patterns sized #8-12.
