Soon we’ll be experiencing outstanding dry fly fishing in the dead of winter. Stoneflies are prolific along the Gunpowder from January through March and know one knows this better than our own Jason du Pont. Read the supplement to the article, Cold as a Stone, from the Plain Talk section of American Anglers’ January/February 2007 issue.

After over 5 years in use in the guide service, we’ve never sent a Bauer reel in for service. We currently have a M.5SL, M1SL, and M2SL in the guide service and they really shine on trips. They are simple, beautiful tools that work without a hitch-that’s important when you’ve got a client hooked into a strong, wild fish that’s headed towards a log with a #22 spinner on 7x tippet. The 1506F is a shop favorite. This box has brought more smiles and organization to folks in the past few years than just about any other small item I can think of. Imagine being able to put the contents of five or six boxes chock-full-of-flies into one place. The box comes with four leaves, so typically we’ll sort nymphs on one side, dries on the second, streamers on the third and terrestrials on the fourth. I have two of these boxes because I have one set up just for Sulphurs in various life stages-think..Dries, Nymphs, Emergers/Cripples and Spinners. Theaux Le Gardeur
I saw a SHA plow truck today on Coldbottom Rd. The plow was conspicuously absent as is the Winter weather we’re used to seeing about now. Rest assured the water is cold, (at 42F) clear, and low. Approaching fish without spooking them has been very tough. Long leaders help but staying out of the water, even the shallows and fishing as much as you can stand it from the banks is probably your best bet. This stream report and picture is care of Jeff Lewatowski of Lewscfa.com Hey Theaux, Here are a few pics from a great Sunday outing on the Gunpowder at Masemore and Falls …
