Swimming Gunpowder Brown Trout

I saw a SHA plow truck today on Coldbottom Rd. The plow was conspicuously absent as is the Winter weather we’re used to seeing about now. Rest assured the water is cold, (at 42F) clear, and low. Approaching fish without spooking them has been very tough. Flyfishing the Gunpowder? Try Pheasant tails and wear gloves

With the water temps in the low 40’s, 42 F today at Masemore, and plenty of low water, (28 Cfs) throughout the catch and release section, glove up and cover more water with small nymphs in slots and runs along log jams and undercuts. Pheasant tails, prince nymphs and small scuds should work fine. Anything doiwnstream of Little Falls will have more flow but not necessarily more fish. More Tying Class Kudos

Hey, thanks guys for holding the Caddis Tying class. The Snowshoe Caddis was a new one for me, and it’s all but unsinkable, (I don’t think I’ll be buying any more elk hair). Jason did a great job showing us the easy way to tie variations of standard patterns. And he also clued us in on how best to fish them. That’s something you don’t find in your typical pattern book. Backwater Angler Now Open on Wednesdays in December
