The Gunpowder river is clear, low and flowing at 54 Cfs. #16 Caddis, soft hackle pheasant tails sized #14-16 and beetles in the #10 to #12 range and small streamers have been tricking fish in the catch and release section. Thanks to Scotty for the stream reports. From July 10, Theaux, Here is my brown caught on Saturday afternoon. Gunpowder River Sulphurs and Tricos

The Gunpowder River is flowing at 76 Cfs, is 51 to 55 F throughout the catch and release section and is clear. Sulphurs are still a good bet midday. We have a new cripple and emerger patterns in the muffin tins. The river has dropped in level which makes it easy for some-as long as one fishes long, light and small –and harder for others-especially if one likes the idea of wading hip deep to cool off. The lower river still has a good many hatchery rainbows that will take streamers with abandon in the pools behind log Jams. For early risers, tricos are just …

A new shipment just arrived from Mary K Jenkins and we have both Brook and Brown Trout long and short sleeved fish t-shirts available in time for Father’s day.

Sulphur duns, including Snowshoe rabbit patterns and traditional feather winged duns sized #16-18, have been working midday. For fishing between hatches or in this case between the hatch and the spinner …

Sulphurs and Showers Make for Great Dry Fly Fishing

The Gunpowder River is clear, flowing at 92 Cfs and is 51 degrees F. Cloudy, overcast days can be some of the best to times to trick wild Gunpowder Browns. The river is at a great level for wading but a little cold to wet wade comfortably. We just received a shipment of Sulphur emerger patterns. Be sure to use dry shake to keep the patterns on the surface and skating. With most of the didymo on the way out try, nymphing has been much easier throughout the catch and release section. Try a small curved shank copper beaded pheasant tail in a #14-18 behind …

Memorial Day Suphurs and 50 Degree F Water on the Gunpowder

The Gunpowder River is clear and cold at 50 F. River temps have been swinging up to 53 F by late afternoon and river flow is ideal at 106 CFs. Sulphurs are peeling off midday and are in the #14, #16 and #18 range. The “mixed” hatch that we have along the Gunpowder is really just Sulphurs. I spent a nice afternoon along the upper river yesterday and found big spinners returning just as smaller Duns were lifting off. For the two gentleman from Towson that joined me, it made for very exciting and productive dry fly fishing. Clouds of midges and a just few …
