Sweetgrass Fly Rod Review

Ron Trout caught and released this wild Gunpowder River Brown Trout on the third cast with his new 7′ 6″ 5wt 2/2 Sweetgrass Bamboo Fly Rod. Theaux, Just about an hour and three cast after the purchase of the Sweetgrass 7 1/2 for 5. I found out just how sweet these rods really are! Smooth as silk throwing a bugger or a small dry. Payne 97 Taper Bamboo Fly rod by Bill Felter

Following is an update from Bill Felter about his latest Bamboo rod now available at the shop. Hi Theaux, I recently finished up work on that rod that was featured way back in October of last year. To refresh customers’ memories, it’s a 2 pc. 7 foot 4 weight built on a Payne model 97 taper. It has a pleasant medium action and loads up with just a small amount of line out of the guides. Cloudveil 8X Grippy Shoes and Sulphurs!

Thanks to Aaron for the following stream report and review of the Cloudveil 8x grippy boots. Theaux- Shoes worked great and were super comfy. I put them through hiking, mud, gravel, boulders, flat water and fast water. Definitely worth the switch from the Chotas. Had a great afternoon and evening of fishing. Saw only one or two other anglers and did well. I had a few fish right off the bat on a size 18 Olive X Caddis above and before the riffle past the bridge abutments. Switched to a HEAVILY hackled split tailed dun and worked the riffle, picking up several NICE browns. I …

Bauer Fly Reel, Scott S4 and Sulphurs

Thanks to Seth for the gear review of the Scott 10ft 4wt 4pc S4 and Bauer M2SL. He also sent in this picture of a wild Gunpowder river brown trout along with a stream report. Great mid-day action on the Gunpowder. Caught five decent Browns, all on a dry fly (Sulpher). They weren’t just sipping either – they were hammering the fly! The new Scott S4 cast like a hot knife through butter and the Bauer M2SL reel had the smoothest action of any reel I’ve ever owned.
