Gunpowder Fishing Report

The river has bumped back up to a flow of around 61 CFs, Steady around 56 degrees, and still clear. We recommend throwing your more natural-colored nymphs such as hares ear and pheasant tail, both beaded or un-beaded. Additionally, anglers have continued to find success throwing terrestrials on a dry dropper rig in the warmer “mid-day” hours. And finally, the shop will be closed Monday and will open again on Thursday so be sure to make it in by Saturday to stock up on gear before that Labor Day weekend fishing trip!

The Gunpowder is currently flowing at 194 cfs and dropping. The water temp spiked at 62 yesterday and is now back down to its normal 65 degrees. With the high flows streamers and terrestrials have been fishing really well. Throwing a 8-12 size wooly bugger in black or olive has been producing the best results for streamers. For terrestrial fishing ants and small hoppers have been crushing it. You can even run a dry dropper rig to increase your chances with nymph off the back of your dry. The Gunpower is currently flowing at 101 cfs and the temperature is swinging from 52 up to 56 in the middle of the day. We have been seeing lots of caddis and BWO’s in the early morning and evening. With this higher flows and cool water temps the fish have been chasing streamers like crazy throughout the day. We recommend fishing the upper river you are looking to throw big bugs now is the time. The Gunpowder is currently flowing at 38 cfs and the water temp is 53 degrees. With these warmer water temps the bug activity has increased. We are starting to see lots more tan Caddis alongside Sulfurs and BWO’s. The fishing has been excellent this past week, and we expect more of the same this week. We are starting to see bugs come off earlier in the day since the water is warmer. Its not a bad idea to get up early and hit the river. The Gunpowder is currently flowing at 35 cfs and the water temperature is at 50 degrees and will rise to 54 today. These past few days on the river have been on fire. the Sulfur hatch is in full swing and there are even large amounts of caddis coming off towards the evening. We are seeing the greatest number of sulfurs come off around 2-6 in the afternoon. Fishing a 14-16 sulfur dry in a pale yellow color on 6x has been the go-to rig for this hatch.
