Well, It’s June 30, and my iPhone is still not activated. I’ve been watching online auctions today and am considering pulling the plug. Especially since they’re going for $700 to $1000. Maybe I’ll put the money in another bamboo fly fishing rod. After all, I know how to use one of those, and I won’t need a computer to “sync” it. After speaking to the good folks at AT&T, friends that have macs, and a “mac genius” from the Apple store in Towson, Maryland I’ve discovered several truths about the Apple iPhone. First, the good news. Because I have not activated my phone, my billing cycle with AT&T won’t likely start until sometime in July. Now for the bad news,
1. The iPhone cannot be activated by the AT&T folks.
2. The iPhone cannot be activated at the Apple store.
3. The iPhone can only be activated by being “syncd” to an iTunes 7.3 account on a PC running XP or Xp Pro with Service Pack 2, or a MAC with osXTiger.
4. The iPhone then will be tied to the computer that the iTunes account is on, ( forever).
Which leads me to the realization that, if I’m going to ever use this iPhone, I need to own a computer that’s at least as up to date as the iPhone. For those of you who missed my first post on the iPhone, I’m about to justify purchasing a new Macbook Pro. For example the Dell laptop we use as a register at Backwater Angler is 4GB, the iPhone is 8Gb. Even the display at 3.5 inches, is more pleasing to my eye than the dusty 15″ screen of my Dell. The list goes on…
If we were talking about fishing equipment, It’s likely that if someone stopped in for a Peerless reel from Bob Corsetti, I’d likely suggest one of Glenn, Jerry, Jeff and Wayne’s Sweetgrass Bamboo Fly Rods, to complement it, or dare I say complete it?
This rationalization is working…Stay tuned!
